South Africa’s Constitutional Court has halted Shell’s attempt to renew an offshore exploration right along the country’s Wild Coast, delivering another setback to oil and gas exploration while reinforcing the importance of community consultation and environmental governance in a sector that has become increasingly important to the country’s energy and investment debate.
