mClinica raises $6.3m to transform global health data
The round is one of the largest financings for a health tech startup in Southeast Asia, according to Tech in Asia data. It was led by Silicon Valley-based Unitus Impact and joined by London-headquartered Global Innovation Fund, MDI Ventures of Indonesia, and US-based Endeavor Catalyst. Existing investors 500 Startups, IMJ Investment Partners, and Kickstart Ventures also put in some cash.

Yet again, China’s Alibaba pumps Paytm with fresh funding of $200 mn
To help boost Paytm’s e-commerce business, Alibaba will reportedly be making an investment of $200 million which will give Paytm a valuation of about $1 billion. Alipay, the payments affiliate of Alibaba, and investment firm SAIF Partners have also participated in the deal, reportedly.

According to the report on the development of Chinese enterprises in South Africa unveiled by the South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association, there are more than 300 Chinese companies including representative offices in South Africa and among them about 140 are large and medium-sized companies.

IFC invests $67m in Apollo Health and Lifestyle for 29% stake
Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd (AHLL) has raised $67 million for a 29 per cent equity stake from International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private lending arm of the World Bank, according to a press statement. “IFC along with its associated entity has has made a primary equity infusion of Rs 450 crore thereby acquiring 29.03 per cent stake in Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd,” Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd said in a BSE filing.

Bayer extends supply facility in Beijing
Bayer inaugurated the extension program of its pharmaceutical products supply Beijing site over the weekend to provide its supply of prescription drugs for Chinese patients. The extension program, with an investment of 100 million euros ($105.9 million), was signed two years ago when German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited China.
