Godfrey Simiyu Katiambo is Senior Regional Advisor – Energy Access at Mercy Corps Energy4Impact. He previously worked as Sector Lead for Climate and Renewable Energy Startups at Energy4Impact Foundation, and served as Founder and CEO of INNO-NEAT Energy Solutions, where he provided off-grid solar energy solutions and business development and impact innovation support. He has over 15 years of experience in various roles related to business development, marketing, renewable energy and consulting.

He served as Impact Manager for Marketing and Distribution at Bopinc, and also worked in Startup Business Development Support at TechBridge Invest Africa, and served as Head of Sales and Operations at SUNami Solar Ltd. Throughout his career, he has gained expertise in market research, strategic planning, partnership development, sales management and capacity development. He has been involved in various projects and initiatives focused on renewable energy, sustainability and economic development. His passion lies in driving business growth, creating social impact and promoting sustainable solutions in the energy sector.

He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing from the University of Nairobi, an MBA in Technology Management/Marketing from Kenya Methodist University, and he has completed various online capacity building courses and certificate programs related to sustainability, clean energy innovations, project management, climate change programming and management.

Reimagining Enterprise Support and Advisory Services for Energy SMEs: Five Principles for Boosting their Impact in the Global South

Over 675 million people still lack access to electricity (as of 2021) — over 80% of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa. As Godfrey Simiyu Katiambo at Mercy Corps Energy4Impact explains, bridging this energy gap in an equitable, sustainable manner will require not only a massive increase in funding, but also targeted support for the small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) that are advancing clean energy access in underserved communities. He explores the growing need for enterprise support and technical and business advisory services that cater to these SMEs' unique challenges, and proposes five ways to boost the impact of these services.
