Pieter Janse van Vuuren is an Associate in Cenfri’s data team. As part of the Rwanda Economy Digitalisation (RED) Programme he leads agriculture research to support the Rwandan government’s efforts to develop evidence-based and inclusive policies to reduce poverty and digitalise the economy.

Pieter initially joined Cenfri’s Risk team in February 2018 and his work focused on the role of insurance in supporting economic growth. He undertook research on insurance in Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda. He has also provided research support for projects in Zambia and Ethiopia. As his interest in data grew, he assisted in developing Cenfri’s database of African Digital Platforms and updating its Insurtech Tracker.

Pieter has a Master’s in economics from Stellenbosch University.
