2024What Is the State of Central African Forests?
The hybrid forum is brought to you by the Central Africa Forest Observatory (OFAC), a specialized unit of the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC) providing up-to-date, relevant data on the region’s forests and ecosystems.
How can we protect Central Africa’s ecosystems? Delve into challenges, opportunities and solutions for sustainable forest management in the region.
Central Africa is home to the second largest rainforest in the world: the Congo Basin, which sustains the livelihoods for millions of people in the region. This vast, rich ecosystem is one of the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots, and it provides food, wood, meat, water and medicines for local communities and helps regulate the climate on a global scale.
But the Congo Basin is under threat from deforestation and the climate crisis. So, how can we keep it healthy by using the latest data to make smart and informed decisions? Join experts, practitioners and policymakers working in forest information management in Central Africa and learn how we can help protect these globally valuable ecosystems.
Apply to join us in person in Bonn, or tune in online from wherever you are in the world!

SurveyCTO Presentation Series: How IPA Peru Used SurveyCTO’s WhatsApp Plug-in to Improve Response Rates
Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a global nonprofit organization that works to solve global poverty with evidence. Founded in 2002, IPA has worked in 52 countries and conducted hundreds of evaluations and built relationships with key decision-makers in those areas to drive their research.
In this webinar, a team of researchers from IPA Peru will walk us through a research project that measured educators’ preferences and feelings on government support for re-opening schools after COVID-19 lockdowns. In July 2021, the Peruvian government decided to re-open schools and give principals the ability to adopt the opening plan that they felt best fit their schools.
IPA’s project involved baseline, midline, and endline assessments of school principals and they made innovative use of SurveyCTO’s WhatsApp plug-in to send follow-up communication and reminders. The result was great improve in survey response rates and reduced attrition. If you run assessments, work in education, or are curious about ways to integrate messaging apps like WhatsApp into your data collection workflows, this is one webinar you absolutely need to attend!
