U.S. global leadership is a Devex series of live conversations with United States lawmakers and administration officials driving policy, funding, and legislation decisions critical to advancing global development goals. Hosted in-person with an intimate audience of leaders in Washington, D.C., and everywhere online, we’ll interview guests with influence over some of our most critical global priorities, ranging from global health, to poverty and inequality, to climate change and food security.

For our first conversation in this series, we’ll be speaking with Rep. Sara Jacobs of California’s 51st Congressional District, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee.

As a ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Jacobs will speak about U.S. engagement on the African continent, the importance of good governance to counter violent extremism and conflict, and increased African representation in international forums including the United Nations. Jacobs is also pushing for implementation of the Global Fragility Act, which aims to reform how the U.S. addresses conflict globally and marks a paradigm shift in traditional development strategies.
