Putting Users at the Heart of Clean Cooking – Session #2

In the second session of this webinar series, Aine Petrulaityte, Research Associate at the MECS Programme, will share insights into how households use electric cooking appliances in everyday lives, with a focus on behaviors related to energy consumption. Drawing on rapid ethnographic fieldwork in 103 households across Ghana, Kenya, Nepal, and Uganda, this visual storytelling session will explore when and why electricity is used for cooking, what behaviors help save energy, and what actions lead to energy waste.

We will examine the types of appliances in use and how they are integrated into kitchen setups, explore the motivations behind households’ adoption of electric cooking, and analyze the persistence of fuel stacking. The session will conclude with actionable insights for behavior change and recommendations for product innovation.
