The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia (DFAT), and The Rockefeller Foundation announced a new partnership today that will aim to foster more inclusive, self-sustaining economies through entrepreneurship in East and Southeast Asia.

Dymon Asia announces first close of $50M fund for fintech, focused on Southeast Asia
Hedge fund Dymon Asia is getting into the venture capital game after it announced its maiden fund. Dymon Asia Ventures is focused on fintech deals and it is targeting a $50 million raise. Today, its founding partners disclosed a first close of $20 million from a range of LPs that include Thai bank Siam Commercial (SCB), which invested an undisclosed sum via its Digital Ventures arm.

Australia initiative aims to help non-profits prepare for impact investment
The Impact Investment Ready initiative, launched Tuesday by Impact Investing Australia and Philanthropy Australia, will support not for profits with Discovery Grants, as well as for-purpose organisations with Growth Grants. Philanthropy Australia’s Chris Wootton, who manages the Discovery Grant arm of the program, said impact investment was a significant opportunity for not-for-profit organisations to secure funding.

mClinica raises $6.3m to transform global health data
The round is one of the largest financings for a health tech startup in Southeast Asia, according to Tech in Asia data. It was led by Silicon Valley-based Unitus Impact and joined by London-headquartered Global Innovation Fund, MDI Ventures of Indonesia, and US-based Endeavor Catalyst. Existing investors 500 Startups, IMJ Investment Partners, and Kickstart Ventures also put in some cash.

Yet again, China’s Alibaba pumps Paytm with fresh funding of $200 mn
To help boost Paytm’s e-commerce business, Alibaba will reportedly be making an investment of $200 million which will give Paytm a valuation of about $1 billion. Alipay, the payments affiliate of Alibaba, and investment firm SAIF Partners have also participated in the deal, reportedly.
