Carola Schwank

Carola Schwank joined Siemens Stiftung in 2009 and heads empowering people. Network (epNetwork) / Development Cooperation. She managed the first three empowering people. Award ceremonies in 2012/13, 2015/16 and 2018/19. This international competition identifies and promotes appropriate technologies that improve basic supply and can be implemented on the basis of sustainable business approaches in developing regions.

She has been building up the international epNetwork with her team since 2014. The network supports social entrepreneurs and impact inventors with a range of online and offline activities. Focusing on entrepreneurial models of basic supply in sub-Saharan Africa, she has also been responsible for cooperation projects that combine basic supply, job creation and knowledge transfer.

At international round tables and working sessions, she brings together stakeholders from the SE ecosystem with the aim to initiate innovative ways of financing and supporting social enterprises. She led the study “Social Enterprises as Job Creators in Africa” and was one of the authors of the report.

Carola studied German, history, political science and sociology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and has over 20 years of professional experience in various fields of communication and corporate social responsibility at Siemens AG.
