Joe Shamash is an independent monitoring and evaluation consultant who specialises in international development, education and inclusive business. He is currently managing the results framework for the UK’s The Department for International Development (DFID) DFID Impact Programme, launched in 2013 to foster the market for impact investment in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Joe was also part of the research team for the Business Call to Action’s recently published flagship report, Breaking Through: Inclusive Business and the Business Call to Action Today – Mapping Challenges, Progress and the Way Ahead.

The idea of smaller emerging companies matching initiatives from larger companies might seem counter-intuitive at first glance. But a study of dozens of inclusive businesses challenges the assumption that large companies are by definition the best route to scale at the BoP.
