    DEVEX @ WHA 75

Devex will host a one-day, hybrid event (yes, we’ll have an in-person event) in Geneva, Switzerland on May 25, 2022, accompanied by an online broadcast to bring you exclusive interviews, expert analysis, and insider coverage of the week’s most important conversations.

The past two years have proven that the world needs to be more prepared for the next pandemic, even as the response to COVID-19 has bolstered preparedness through the birth of new initiatives, interest in the creation of new institutions, and debate on how to change what has long been the status quo. This year governments will convene at the 75th World Health Assembly to discuss details surrounding new pandemic preparedness instruments, while the matter of ending the current pandemic remains high on the agenda.

The exclusive, in-person portion of the event will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland. The virtual program will include the livestream of the in-person portion and two additional hours of programming. We’ll give you a front row seat to the major decision points at the 75th World Health Assembly and an opportunity to learn how current and future initiatives can protect the world from global health threats.

Guests joining us in person are also invited to attend a cocktail hour following the main programming, with opportunities to connect with other leaders in global health from around the globe.

    Livestream: 1:00 p.m. CET | 7:00 a.m. ET

    In-Person: 4:00 p.m. CET

How Nyaka Created an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System to Improve Community Health Care in Uganda

While monitoring the health of communities in the hardest to reach areas of Uganda, Paul Nzerebende, MEAL Manager at Nyaka, knew there was a better way to store medical records. Before adopting SurveyCTO in 2021, they were filing patient data on paper, which made it hard to track, analyze, and access—which also limited the medical guidance Nyaka’s fieldworkers could provide to their patients.

As a long-time user of SurveyCTO, Paul knew that the platform had all the necessary functionalities to create a highly efficient digital system so Nyaka’s community clinics could collect, analyze and visualize data. Leaning on his programming skills, he was able to integrate SurveyCTO with Google Data Studio (GDS) to build interactive dashboards, which allowed him and his team to easily visualize patient data on the spot.

On May 25th, we’ll host a webinar with Paul to learn how he created Nyaka’s centralized Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system using SurveyCTO.

Nyaka provides community-based programs to address the needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in rural southwestern Uganda. Their aim is to ensure that each child has access to clean water, nutritious food, medical care, and information to keep them safe and healthy.

In the webinar, Paul will share:

    • How he set up the EMR system using SurveyCTO and Google Data Studio
    • The system’s impact on Nyaka’s work, service delivery, and partners
    • The pros and cons of the ERM system
    • Opportunities it presents for medical records in the future

The Role of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) In Safeguarding Global Health

In this webinar, we will examine the linkages between water, global health and human rights.

Every person needs a sustainable supply of clean water: for drinking, washing, cooking and cleaning. However, despite being a basic human right, 2 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water services and 3.6 billion people lack safely managed sanitation services. Moreover, 2.3 billion people lack access to basic hygiene practices, compounding the effects on people’s health. Safeguarding global health – and ensuring prosperity for all – cannot be achieved without ramping up efforts to provide universal WASH.

    Speakers:

    • HRBA, groundwater and human access to water: Jenny Grönwall, SIWI
    • An Overview of Country Responses to COVID-19 on ‘Safe Return to Schools’: Henning Göransson and Ricard Gine, SIWI
    • A human rights approach to the provision of toilets in public spaces: case studies in Latin America: Laura Vargas, SIWI

    Time: 15:00 – 15:15 CET
