This International Women’s Day, Grameen Foundation is taking you behind the scenes of our work to end poverty by investing in the power of women. Over the last 25 years, we’ve worked to dismantle systems holding women back and bridge the divide between the power of rural women and access to traditional banking institutions.

Our Invest in HER Power strategy provides holistic support and training- far beyond a simple loan. We work at the household, community, and industry level – “de-risking” women both personally and professionally thus ensuring they can step into their full potential and power. In Africa, women make up to 69% of tourism employees. However, alongside these opportunities, women in tourism face not only economic hurdles accelerated by the negative impact of the global recession, regional conflicts, but also environmental challenges, particularly amidst the pressing issues of climate change. Despite their significant representation, women in tourism often find themselves confined to low-paid skill jobs, highlighting the urgent need to address systemic barriers and harness their full potential.
