To help address this, the Development Marketplace is preparing for a country-level competition in Egypt early next year. The proposed DM competition will focus on social entrepreneurs with projects that have a strong impact on creating sustainable job opportunities, especially in the agricultural supply chain sector.

In Guatemala, Alterna Aims to Harness Entrepreneurial Spirit

Since most enterprises develop out of necessity, there is a large gap in training and technical assistance. Launched in 2010, Alterna, an incubator and mentor to social and environmental ventures, aims to fill that gap.

New Techniques, Technology Helping Operation ASHA to Expand
Operation ASHA is a community-based program founded in the Delhi slums to fight the spread of antibiotic resistant TB strains by incentivizing counselors to closely monitor progress of patients and ensure they finish courses of DOTS. They have been growing at a dizzying pace with plans to expand to Cambodia, Morocco, Ghana, and Kenya.
