Martin is an academic and consultant working on the strategic management of large companies in Base of the Pyramid markets. He is a doctoral student at the University St.Gallen, Switzerland (www.unisg.ch) and an associate with Endeva - enterprise solutions for development (www.endeva.org). As an oikos PhD Fellow, he developed (and still runs) the oikos UNDP Young Scholars Academy that brings together PhD students and young scholars working on inclusive market and BoP issues. After Appenzell, Switzerland (2009) and Turrialba / Alajuela, Costa Rica (2010), the 2011 academy will take place in Bangalore, India.
When not writing for NextBillion or his PhD, he enjoys designing new and innovative solutions for challenging organizational and market contexts and developing interactive events and workshops that bring people together to share their experiences and learning together. He has in-depth experience in microinsurance in various company-specific and geographical contexts. His key interests include financial inclusion and microinsurance, but also the use of digital technologies for development, the link between poverty and the environment and strategies for urban change and renewal.
Martin has a background in economics and political science, speaks German, English and Spanish and has a passion for photography.
