The foundation of behavioral economics is the fact that human decision-making usually isn’t rational, but driven by emotion, framing, and a million outside influences. I’ve been exposed to these theories in action in policy making, marketing, consumer research, and public health, so when I started studying and working in the field of impact investing, I was curious to see what behavioral theories could be applied to the field.

Healthcare Research Paper Published: Increasing Access to Malaria Meds Focus of Research
The first paper from a just-completed, multi-year extensive research project on how to increase the availability of subsidized medicines in remote areas has been published. The paper, “Trends in availability and prices of subsidized ACT over the first year of the AMFm: evidence from remote regions of Tanzania,” was published in Malaria Journal. It was written by WDI Director of Healthcare Research Prashant Yadav and others -including WDI Healthcare Research Associate Sarah Alphs and WDI Healthcare Research Assistant Pete Larson.

Through a for-profit reinsurance company called MiCRO (Microinsurance Catastrophe Risk Organisation), formed in March 2011 by the global humanitarian agency Mercy Corps and Haiti’s largest microfinance institution Fonkoze, female microentrepreneurs who hold policies will have their loans cancelled and receive a $125 USD payout to replace damaged inventory or repair homes or businesses.
